The truth is out! After weeks of not knowing what really happened at the supposed wedding of Señorita Dayana with Mario in Miami, the Cuban singer clarified in an interview with Destino Tolk that it was a marketing strategy that was part of the production of her new musical release.
"Let's get serious, the wedding was part of a production for a music video. We never got married, and I have to thank everyone who was there and collaborated to keep the secret," he explained.
According to Dayana, the idea of the "wedding" came up as a marketing strategy to generate interest for the music video of "Bonita," a song about female empowerment that she just released on her platforms. Although Mario, her partner and the father of her daughter, was not completely on board with the idea, he agreed to participate to support the singer's career. "Thanks to Mario, because he was the first one who wasn't in favor. But when we explained that it was a marketing strategy, he did it to support my career," the artist commented.
Dayana also admitted that the idea of creating an entire story around the wedding was not entirely her own. She attributed much of the responsibility to the producer and director of the video, who proposed the strategy to capture the audience's attention. "A whole story was created, I'm not the only one to blame. The biggest culprit is the producer and director of the video," she clarified. Additionally, she apologized to anyone who might have felt offended by the maneuver, recognizing that Cubans are still in the process of learning about digital marketing and social media.
"It was crazy. I'm not one to applaud what is poorly done or to deceive people; it was a kind of deception, but a white lie," the singer confessed, adding that the strategy relied on the virality generated by the controversy, especially with the moment she appeared saying 'cut the live.'
Dayana admitted that, although she does not completely approve of this type of maneuver, the situation made her see the power of social media and the ability to generate interest through scandal.
The music video for "Bonita" is now available on YouTube, which indeed features footage recorded at the fake wedding of Señorita Dayana and Mario. The story shows how the bride, Señorita Dayana, finds out about her fiancé's infidelity before reaching the altar, leading the protagonist to love herself and prioritize herself over others.
"I celebrate myself, I choose myself, I accept myself, and I love myself with all my defects," sings the Cuban artist in her song.
Among the people featured in the music video for "Bonita" were Eduardo Antonio, Lenier Mesa, and Tekashi 6ix9ine.
