The Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) announced that reliever Yoan López, a former Major League Baseball (MLB) player with the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets, will not participate in the upcoming Premier 12 tournament.
The decision is due to a complication in the health of the flamethrower, the FCB stated on their account on the social media platform X.
López, originally from Isla de la Juventud, had been called up to join the island's team for this important tournament. However, he has ultimately had to decline his participation.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time the closer has missed an event with the national team, as he also sat out the V World Classic following a personal decision.
A few hours ago, Cuba concluded the Ulsan-KBO Autumn League 2024 with three victories and one defeat, as part of its preparation for the Premier 12, which is scheduled to begin next month in November.
The team managed by Armando Johnson celebrated victories over Héroes de Goyang (14-3), Huge Horses (7-2), and LG Twins (2-1), while their only loss came against NC Dinos (1-13).
In statements to JIT, Johnson explained that the matches allowed all the players to be active, with an emphasis on maximizing the versatility of many of them.
"The pitchers did the job that was expected of them, in accordance with the number of pitches and the roles assigned to them, without pushing anything in pursuit of results, and generally speaking, we are satisfied," he stated.
The island is in group B alongside South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Australia, Chinese Taipei, and Japan, the reigning champion.
The matches in this round will take place at the "Vantelin Dome Nagoya," a Japanese dream, and at the "Taipéi Dome" and "Tianmu," both located in Taipei.
In section A, Mexico, the United States, Venezuela, the Netherlands, Panama, and Puerto Rico will compete at the "Pan American Stadium Charros de Jalisco" in Guadalajara and at "Santa Teresita de Tepic" in Nayarit, all located in Mexican cities.
