A fire that occurred on Wednesday afternoon affected the home of an elderly man with visual disabilities in Santiago de Cuba while he was using an electric stove.
According to the official profile "Santiago de Cuba al día" on Facebook, neighbors of the affected individual, named Rogelio Arencibia, reported on both the causes of the incident and the health status of the elderly man.
The publication also clarified that the incident occurred at D Street #29, between Estrella and Santa Bárbara, in the Jiménez neighborhood.
Firefighters from the province responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the initial fire before the flames spread to neighboring homes.
Apparently, no casualties were reported, although the fire caused significant material damage to Arencibia's home.
Journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada posted a video on Facebook showing that the fire truck had already extinguished the flames.
Recently, amid the widespread power outage in Cuba, an apartment caught fire in the 23 Alamar area of Havana after the family living there attempted to cook with firewood due to the lack of electricity.
A video shared on TikTok by user Lidia Rodríguez stated that at the time of the incident, there were two children in the house, and fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of the event.
A few days ago, a medium-sized fire broke out at a raw materials center in the Artemisa municipality of Güira de Melena, as reported by residents on their social media.
The fire, visible across much of the town, drew the attention of numerous locals, who remarked that the cause of the incident is still unknown.
At the beginning of the month, the forces of the Ministry of the Interior and the Fire Department extinguished a fire that started at the La Francia Moderna store, owned by the CIMEX S.A. corporation, located on the central boulevard of the city.
The swift actions of both the store employees and the firefighters prevented any loss of life or injuries.
However, the incident has caused significant economic losses, reported the state newspaper Cinco de Septiembre on Facebook.
