Cuban player Leonys Martín was recognized as Player of the Week in the Venezuelan winter baseball league, making a strong impression with the Tiburones de La Guaira in the opening of the 2024-2025 season.
According to journalist Francys Romero on the social media platform Facebook, between October 29 and November 3, the former Major League player achieved an average of .354, with three home runs, eight RBIs, a total of five extra-base hits, and an impressive OPS of 1.419.
Under the direction of manager Ozzie Guillén, the current champion of the league and the Caribbean Series, Leonys has been placed as the leadoff hitter for the team, and the results of this strategy have been immediate, solidifying his impact on the field and his contributions in all aspects.
Guillén, also the 2005 World Series champion with the Chicago White Sox, recognizes the talent of the player born in Villa Clara and considers him one of the pillars of the team.
