The Vice President of the United States and Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, canceled the speech she was scheduled to give at the end of Election Day.

The decision came after the publication of preliminary results that place her at a clear disadvantage against the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, who is projected to be the next president of the United States.

With a significant difference in the popular vote and the Electoral College, Harris chose not to address her supporters directly, instead sending a message in which she emphasized the importance of democracy and the need to respect the will of the people.

“Democracy is the voice of the people and must always be respected,” he stated in a statement in which, according to EFE, he also expressed his wishes for success for the new administration.

According to the most recent data, Trump has received 70.8 million votes so far, compared to Harris's 65.7 million. If these numbers are confirmed, Trump would not only have won in the Electoral College but also in the popular vote, a feat that Republicans have not achieved since George W. Bush's victory in 2004.

These results solidify Trump's lead in key states, making Harris's victory virtually impossible, according to analysts. The defeat is particularly significant given that Harris had run a campaign focused on continuing the policies of the Biden administration and countering the conservative agenda that Trump seeks to implement.

Control of the House of Representatives and the Senate will be crucial for the next president, as it will determine the viability of proposed policies. While the Republicans have secured control of the Senate, the outcome in the House of Representatives remains uncertain, with several districts still in the counting process.

For the Democrats, maintaining a majority in the House would be their last opportunity to exert checks on Congress and curb Trump’s policies.

However, if the Republicans are able to gain the majority in both chambers, they could facilitate the implementation of a political agenda characterized by the expansion of tax cuts, border control policies, and the dismantling of various regulations established during the Biden administration.

Political analysts emphasize that the electoral day has proceeded in a more predictable manner compared to the 2020 process, where the results shifted significantly during the late counting. According to analyst Harry Enten, “it has been a clear night with no strange directional changes, unlike what happened in 2020, when the vote count altered the initial trends.”

In this context, Trump emerges not only as the next president but also as the leader of a new era of Republican control in the United States.

If confirmed, this victory would signify a shift towards an administration that seeks to reverse the progressive policies implemented in recent years.

By canceling her speech, Harris seems to have acknowledged this reality, while her supporters and the Democratic Party process the results of an election that signals a turning point for the country.
