Cuban-American Republican Senator Marco Rubio is emerging as one of the leading candidates for Secretary of State in the upcoming Donald Trump administration.
Rubio, a senator from Florida, played a prominent role in U.S. policy toward Latin America during Trump's first term, due to his influence on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
This year, he was also among the possible candidates for the vice presidency in the Republican campaign.
Efe agency adds that other names are also being considered to lead U.S. diplomacy, such as former National Intelligence Director Rick Grenell, a close ally of Trump and former ambassador to Germany from 2018 to 2020.
Additionally, Senator Bill Hagerty, who served as ambassador to Japan, is regarded as a potential contender, according to Politico.
Regarding the Treasury Department, the names mentioned include billionaire investor John Paulson, who gained fame for predicting the 2008 financial crisis, and Trump's current economic advisor, Scott Bessent.
Republican Senator Tom Cotton could be appointed Secretary of Defense, while Robert Kennedy Jr., known for his anti-vaccine stance, may take a position related to health or food and drug regulation.
Businessman Elon Musk and presenter Tucker Carlson were seen at Mar-a-Lago this Wednesday alongside Trump, which has sparked speculation about their potential influence on initial measures and the shaping of the cabinet.
This appointment should not encounter significant obstacles for its confirmation, given the Republican majority in the Senate.
According to what was reported on Thursday by The Washington Post and Politico, Trump's campaign is already in transition mode following the elections held last Tuesday, in which he secured a second term that will officially begin on January 20.
