The elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, began to establish strategic contacts with leaders from Latin America, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation on priority issues such as migration and border security.
Following the announcement of his electoral victory this week, Trump has held friendly conversations with the leaders of Mexico, El Salvador, and Argentina, expressing his interest in working together to address common challenges.
The call with Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico
Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico, shared on her social media that her conversation with Trump was "very cordial" and that both discussed the prospects of maintaining a good relationship between their countries.
At a press conference, Sheinbaum avoided going into details about the migration crisis and Mexico's stance on Trump's recent statements, in which he claimed he would push for the largest deportation in the history of his country.
"There are strategies and dialogues with the United States and with the elected president Donald Trump. If any issues arise, we will know how to resolve them," asserted the Mexican president, reaffirming that her government is ready to collaborate in the event of any migration challenges.
Conversation with Nayib Bukele, President of El Salvador
The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, also had a conversation with Trump, congratulating him on his decisive victory in the United States presidential elections.
Bukele noted that they discussed the strong support the elected leader received from the Americans and topics such as U.S. foreign aid, particularly in relation to certain non-governmental organizations financed by businessman George Soros.
Furthermore, both leaders emphasized their commitment to face together the challenges of their respective administrations.
Trump has the full support of Javier Milei, the President of Argentina.
The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, expressed his full support for Trump, indicating his willingness to collaborate on the initiatives undertaken by the next U.S. administration.
"You know you can count on Argentina to make America great again," Milei told Trump.
He emphasized Argentina's interest in strengthening bilateral ties and collaborating with the U.S. on mutually beneficial projects, particularly in the areas of economic and social development.
Trump's stance on immigration.
In recent statements, Trump reaffirmed that border security and mass deportations will be a priority on his agenda.
The elected president has stated that he plans to implement a strict deportation system for dangerous criminals, such as murderers and drug traffickers, whom he views as an unacceptable threat to the country.
"We have no other option," he assured on Thursday, referencing the support of voters for this national security approach.
Additionally, Trump expressed his desire to attract companies and individuals who wish to contribute to the development of the United States legally. "We want people to come, but they have to come legally," indicating his willingness to allow for an orderly and productive immigration process.
The recent discussions between the elected president and Latin American leaders indicate the beginning of diplomatic relations marked by cordiality and cooperation. However, some analysts believe that the situation may take a turn in January when Trump returns to his seat in the Oval Office.
