The multinational fast food restaurant chain Wendy's will close 140 locations in the United States before the end of the year.

The third largest chain of hamburger restaurants in the United States reported that it conducted a thorough review of individual locations to assess their profitability and ensure they provide the Wendy's brand experience to customers.

According to Kirk Tanner, the company's president, it has been decided that around 140 locations will close due to being outdated and situated in "low-performing commercial areas."

"It concerns closures that would have occurred in the years 25, 26, and 27," added the executive, who did not specify the locations of the establishments.

In a results call, the executive noted that over time, many of those units will be replaced by new restaurants in better locations with higher sales and profitability.

Despite the upcoming closures, the chain revealed that it has opened more than 500 locations across the country in the past two years and is confident that it will achieve significant growth in 2025 and the following years.

Wendy's offers a menu featuring hamburgers, sandwiches, and shakes. It has over 6,480 locations in the United States, making it only second to McDonald's and Burger King.

In October, in collaboration with Paramount, they launched the Krabby Patty burger and Pineapple Under the Sea ice cream to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants.

Upcoming promotions will feature a new Frosty salty caramel, and the cheeseburger with bacon and mushrooms will make a return.
