The Cuban government, through representatives in Granma province, the most affected by the earthquakes that occurred on Sunday morning, stated that there are no fatalities due to these events, although there are injuries.

According to Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Eduardo Martínez Díaz, the authorities in Granma have stated that there are no fatalities directly resulting from the earthquakes, but there are injuries, although no specific number was given.

The official newspaper La Demajagua reported that in Pilón, one of the most affected municipalities, two people were injured: a 5-year-old girl and a 48-year-old woman.

In the municipality of Media Luna, several injured individuals were also reported, including a minor and an adult, all in the community of La Junta.

While three deaths occurred, they are described as not directly related to the earthquakes. One of the deceased was a terminal cancer patient, while the other two were individuals who had suffered heart attacks.

Despite the government not reporting any fatalities and the number of injured being unknown, it was revealed that the Félix Lugones Ramírez Hospital in Pilón suffered significant damage.

Photos shared by La Demajagua highlight the impact of the earthquakes on their wards and operating rooms. "Patients are in safe areas, and medical services are being strengthened for their care," they said.

Although the seismic events caused damage in several areas of Santiago de Cuba, the most significant impacts are concentrated in the province of Granma.

From several municipalities in that province, located along the southern coast (Pilón, Campechuela, Media Luna, Niquero), distressing images have emerged, where destruction and fear have taken over the streets of the towns.

Dr. Enrique Diego Arango Arias, head of the National Seismological Service of Cuba at the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS), warned on his social media that the situation is quite complicated following the recording of two earthquakes and their aftershocks, which had reached a total of 495 by 9:06 p.m. on Sunday. Of this total, more than 20 have been felt in Granma.
