Cuban authorities have recorded 2,300 aftershocks from the earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 and 6.7 that occurred on Sunday in the eastern region. Of the total, approximately 78 were noticeable.
The latest report from the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS), covering the period from 6:00 AM on Tuesday to 5:59 AM on Wednesday, indicates 11 earthquakes with a magnitude greater than 3.0, ten of which were located within 40 km of the municipality of Pilón in Granma.
The statistical summary of events by zones, which includes earthquakes of magnitude greater than 3.0 and perceptible ones (12), reveals that there have been 501 earthquakes ranging from magnitude 1.0 to 4.3 in the Pilón and Chivirico area, and one of 3.1 in Paso de los Vientos Gran Inagua.
The eastern region of Cuba has been on alert since Sunday, as tremors have not ceased over the past three days.
Until Tuesday morning, the National Seismological Service reported a total of 1,799 earthquakes. Of these, 914 occurred in the last 24 hours in the Pilón-Chivirico area.
Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, the first secretary of the Party in Santiago de Cuba, revealed that out of the 1,799 replicas, 63 were possibly perceptible.
The leader urged the population to remain vigilant regarding seismic activity.
"That's what we ask the people of Santiago: to stay informed about what needs to be done before, during, and after an earthquake," he said.
Until 5:59 AM on Monday, CENAIS had recorded 885 earthquakes.
