The Cuban prisoner Inoel Rodríguez Rodríguez was beaten to death in the Ariza prison in Cienfuegos, his family members reported.

According to their explanation, the body of the 27-year-old young man who suffered from schizophrenia was handed over in a coffin, but upon noticing that he had a bruised eye, they decided to examine the body.

"They opened the coffin and took photographs of his body as evidence of the torture he endured. Reports indicate that the order was given by Maikel Medinas Terry, and he was beaten by seven guards, some of whom are known as: El Diablo, Chávez, El Bala, Leducar, Samaná, and Ismael," the complaint emphasizes.

The victim had bruises all over the body, including the legs, head, face, arms, and back, as shown in a video released by the family.

Inoel was a prisoner suffering from schizophrenia and was reportedly beaten savagely for shouting "homeland and life, Díaz-Canel you bastard, Raúl Castro murderer."

The prison officials, whose director is named Lisandro Arguelles Fonseca, informed the family that the young man had committed suicide.

Cuban-American congressman Mario Diaz-Balart described this event as "horrendous" and called for the torturers of Rodríguez Rodríguez to be held accountable.

"Strong sanctions must be reinstated against the regime that abuses, imprisons, and seeks to destroy those who dare to speak out against it. The days of appeasement that emboldened our adversaries under the Biden-Harris Administration are numbered," he stated.

"We will soon begin a new phase that will put an end to this Administration's policy of concessions," emphasized the congressman, referring to Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election, who has just appointed fellow Cuban American Marco Rubio as his new Secretary of State.

Last July, the non-governmental organization Cubalex, dedicated to monitoring respect for human rights in Cuba and providing free legal assistance on the island, reported 56 deaths of individuals who were in custody of the country's authorities over the past two years.

Violence is the leading cause of death in these cases.
