A 30-year-old Cuban woman residing in the municipality of Maisí, in Guantánamo, was brutally murdered by her partner with a machete, according to several reports on social media.
The woman was the mother of two minors: a teenager of about 14 years old and a girl of about 9 years old, who are now orphaned.
The victim, identified as Daynilis Lobaina Torrell, was reportedly killed by Ridelkis Guilarte Castillo, known as "Jicarita," who is still on the run from justice.
On social media, neighbors, family members of the victim, and residents of Maisí have expressed their shock at the brutality of the act, which displayed a relentless cruelty.
Guilarte Castillo was described by an anonymous internet user who reported the incident as someone explosive, problematic, and of low moral character.
Harsh images are circulating on social media that we urge to be removed out of respect for the victim's family.
Ridelkis Guilarte is said to have a history of illegal activities, including involvement in the "bolita" lottery and the slaughter of cattle.
The crime was also highlighted by the investigative reporter, Niover Licea, on his social media.
Daribel Lobaina Torrel, who identified herself as the cousin of the deceased, wrote on Facebook that the attacker struck the victim "mercilessly with a machete, as if she were an animal."
"And her aunt told her not to give any more, but the more she said it, the more determined she became to continue. The family is partly not to blame, obviously, but he has to pay a heavy price. For those who feel the pain, the hurt is profound. The loss for the family is irreparable because he did not stop delivering blows. Whatever is said about him or what is done to him is nothing compared to what he did," wrote Lobaina Torrel.
"I can tell you that what the boy did was terrible, something unforgivable and incomprehensible, because I participated in the autopsy of the young woman yesterday, and it was disastrous. In the years I worked in the morgue, I had never seen anything like it, and believe me, I’ve dealt with some gruesome and horrifying cases, but this went beyond all limits. Not even with death can the boy atone for what he did. My condolences to her family. Rest in peace," wrote Felix Ramos Torrel.
Social media has been flooded with messages of condolences for Daynilis's family, while multiple voices arecalling for justice so that this case does not go unpunished.
