Evelyn, the woman who has identified herself as the aunt of Damián Valdez-Galloso, the accused in the murder of Cuban reggaeton artist El Taiger, sent a message to the late artist's former manager, stating that the effort to gather signatures and try to change the charges against her nephew “is pointless.”
"I want to take this opportunity to send a message to Teresa: If you hear this message (which is possible because people on TikTok rush to criticize as soon as I say anything, like a pack of hyenas, just waiting to pounce)," Evelyn began saying in a video shared by the Instagram account Papel en Cara.
Additionally, in the video, she continues by saying that “if it’s proven that Damián is in first grade, fine. But not because people write letters and start applying pressure. No, Tere, no, you’re wasting your time, and this path is too long. It’s a journey you just started, and I would like to see you get to the end, because the end is far away; believe me, we’re talking about years,” were Evelyn's words.
Since November 8, individuals close to El Taiger have created a petition demanding that the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office upgrade the charges against Damián Valdez-Galloso to first-degree murder, in connection with the homicide of the Cuban reggaeton artist.
Teresa Padrón, manager of El Taiger, shared a link to this petition on her Instagram profile: “My people, please let's sign and share the petition to seek justice for José.”
The document requests that authorities change the charge from second-degree murder to first-degree murder, a point even questioned by Judge Mindy S. Glazer during the defendant's first appearance in court, where bail was denied.
“José was taken from his family, including his four children, under brutal and premeditated circumstances. However, the current charge of second-degree murder does not fully reflect the gravity and intent of this crime. This classification minimizes the loss experienced by the family, friends, and community of José Manuel Carvajal, and we request that Damián Valdez-Galloso be held appropriately accountable,” the petition states.
