After a black Sunday in Cuba, where the electricity service was disrupted for 24 hours due to a generation capacity deficit, the population begins Monday with a forecast of more blackouts, in a crisis that seems never-ending.
According to the report from Unión Eléctrica (UNE), on Sunday, the maximum impact was 1,348 MW (slightly less than the forecast of 1,421 MW) at 6:30 PM.
The service continued to be affected throughout the night. During peak demand, 134 MW were impacted due to the outages caused by Hurricane Rafael in the electrical networks (40 MW in Pinar del Río and 94 MW in Artemisa).
For this Monday, a generation deficit is expected to affect 478 MW in the morning, 750 MW in the early afternoon, and 1,399 MW during peak hours.
Five units from the thermal power plants Mariel, Santa Cruz, Felton, and Renté are out of operation due to breakdowns. Additionally, four units from the Santa Cruz, Cienfuegos, and Renté plants are still undergoing maintenance.
Additionally, 44 distributed generation plants are out of operation due to a lack of fuel, including the facilities in Santiago de Cuba and Regla, along with the CDE Moa, resulting in a total of 437 MW affected.
The limitations in thermal generation are 345 MW.
