The Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) of Cuba issued Special Notice No. 1 regarding the occurrence of rain, showers, and thunderstorms in the western region, associated with the cold front approaching the country.

According to the report, high migratory pressures are currently affecting Cuba, stemming from the western Atlantic, while a cold front is moving over the southeast Gulf of Mexico, bringing with it extensive areas of cloudiness and storms.

"The images from the weather radars in Casa Blanca, Havana, and La Bajada in Pinar del Río detect strong storm areas along approximately 500 kilometers from the north of the Yucatan Peninsula to Key West," the report details.

These storm areas are moving southeast and will reach the western part of Cuba in the afternoon and evening of this Wednesday, worsening weather conditions. INSMET added that heavy rainfall may occur in some localities of the western region, particularly in Pinar del Río, Artemisa, and Havana, associated with the passing storm areas.

"Additionally, in inland areas and along the northern coast where there is strong storm activity, severe weather events may occur, such as strong gusty winds, hail, and other severe phenomena," the note adds.

This Wednesday, the first cold front of the winter season will arrive in Cuba, bringing a drop in temperatures along with showers and rain in the western region.

The phenomenon is moving toward the Island through the Gulf of Mexico, and "it is preceded by a prefrontal band with significant showers, rainfall, and thunderstorms that will begin to affect the western part of Cuba from late morning and into the afternoon," reported meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez on social media.

The specialist added that, specifically, the rains and storms can be intense, especially in areas along the northern coast. The phenomenon is accompanied by a drop in temperatures, resulting in cool days and cold mornings.

INSMET announced a gradual increase in cloud cover starting at noon, particularly in Pinar del Río and Artemisa, where the rainfall will be more intense. These conditions will gradually extend to the rest of the western region.

Maximum temperatures will range between 28 and 31 degrees Celsius, with higher values in some southeastern areas. At night, they will drop to between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius.
