Mexican authorities found the bodies of two Cuban women identified as Ana Mercedes, 33, and Leydi de la Caridad, 36, who had been kidnapped near Tapachula in the southern part of the country.
The bodies of both women were found dismembered inside an abandoned trash tank along the road connecting the Pumpuapan canton with Nueva Granada, reported the local outlet Diario del Sur.
An 18-year-old motorcyclist named Julio Alberto was passing by at the moment the criminals were abandoning the women, and he was also shot and killed.
According to investigations, the women were kidnapped on Saturday around 9:00 PM by an armed group while they were at a hotel in the city, which is on the border with Guatemala.
Later, they were taken to an unknown location, and a video shared on social media showed one of the victims, Ana Mercedes, pleading with her family to pay the ransom demanded by her captors.
According to authorities, the women were killed for not receiving the requested money.
The bodies of the victims were placed in a plastic tank and abandoned on the road in Tapachula, where thousands of immigrants are stranded, trying to reach the United States border.
The relatives of the victims went to the Border District Prosecutor's Office to identify the bodies and noted that Ana Mercedes worked at a bar in the border town.
The authorities reported that the whereabouts of the husband of one of the victims is unknown, who had sought police assistance regarding the kidnapping.
In the context of the Cuban migration crisis, kidnappings in Mexico have increased. Six days ago, a family on the island reported that they had not heard from or seen Jorge Raúl Avalle Recio, a Cuban migrant in Mexico, for 11 days. His wife sent the kidnappers $3,200 as ransom, but the man was not released.
