Cuba's Electric Union (UNE) announced scheduled blackouts for this Friday due to a generation capacity shortfall of 1,420 MW during peak hours.

At 7:00 AM, the availability of the National Electroenergy System (SEN) was 1585 MW, while the demand was 2150 MW, leaving a deficit of 597 MW. Starting from noon, this figure is expected to rise to 900 MW.

Furthermore, 39 MW in Artemisa remain affected due to electrical network damages caused by Hurricane Rafael.

According to the daily report from UNE, the service was disrupted for 24 hours on Thursday, with a maximum impact of 1,471 MW recorded at 6:20 PM, coinciding with peak demand time. At that time, 40 MW were affected due to damage caused by the hurricane.

The service was restored on Friday at 2:42 AM and began to be affected again at 4:38 AM.

Three units from the Mariel, Matanzas, and Felton thermoelectric plants are out of service due to malfunctions. Additionally, maintenance is being performed on four other units from the Santa Cruz, Cienfuegos, and Renté thermal power stations.

The limitations in thermal generation are 348 MW.

On the other hand, 43 distributed generation plants are not operational due to a lack of fuel, along with one unit of the Nuevitas thermal power plant, the truck in Santiago de Cuba, and four engines in the Melones truck, totaling 411 MW affected.
