The Government of Asturias granted nearly 150,000 euros to emigrants and their descendants in Cuba who are in a vulnerable situation.

This is an initiative from the Ministry of the Presidency, Demographic Challenge, Equality, and Tourism aimed at helping to meet the basic needs of individuals born in Asturias and their first-degree relatives.

This year, 926 applications were received, of which 833 were approved. The majority came from Cubans (606), followed by Argentinians (158) and Venezuelans (111).

The program includes two lines of support: one aimed at individuals over 65 years old and another for people between the ages of 18 and 64 who are victims of gender-based violence, have a permanent disability, or suffer from a severe illness that prevents them from working.

The total amount approved this year was 440,000 euros (30,000 euros more than in 2023), which was distributed in aid to 833 emigrants and their descendants in Latin America as follows:

Argentina: 155,748 euros

Cuba: 149,338 euros

Venezuela: 95,379 euros

Uruguay: 15,487 euros

Mexico: 8,209 euros

Chile: 7,522 euros

Brazil: 6,209 euros

Other Latin American countries: 2,104 euros

According to information published on the international portal, the amount of aid varies depending on the circumstances of each beneficiary and their country of residence, taking into account local purchasing power.

"The maximum amount is 2,000 euros, except in the case of Cuba, where the limit is set at 600 euros," it specifies.

In 2024, 65 more requests were received than in 2023, and 60 more applications were approved.

Olaya Gómez Romano, the Director General of Emigration and Return Policies, stated that the assistance reflects the commitment of the Government of Asturias to Asturians residing abroad and their descendants, "ensuring their well-being, regardless of where they live."
