A young pizza maker in Cienfuegos surprised everyone with an act of honesty when he returned 400 pesos that an elderly customer had overpaid by mistake.

The incident was reported this Tuesday by the profile "Las Cosas de Fernanda," which is aligned with the Cuban regime, in a post on Facebook.

The elderly man, who had bought three pizzas, got tangled up with the money and gave the pizza maker an excessive amount in bills of different denominations.

With kindness, the young man called him back, corrected the mistake, and returned the difference, which sparked remarks of astonishment and appreciation among those present.

"My father is coming, take this because he overpaid me," said the pizza maker to the elderly man.

This event is celebrated as a reminder that honesty and the values instilled at home remain alive in Cuban society.

"Few people do that today. What this young man did," noted the profile "Las Cosas de Fernanda."

However, the fact that an official profile regards this story as an extraordinary event highlights the profound impoverishment of Cuban society, which has been struck by one of the worst economic crises in its history.

One of the people who commented on the post was Mayrena Rebollido, who identified herself as the wife of the self-employed worker who runs the pizzeria.

"In our place, honesty comes first. We are from another era, and we teach the youth the values with which we were raised," he pointed out.

He also stated, “I am very happy for your words; you have no idea how much I suffer from the criticism of the self-employed workers. Not all of us are the same; we are a working family with entrepreneurial ideas. We weren’t born with a silver spoon in our mouths; we know what it means to struggle, and that is why we respect the hard work of a laboring people.”

Amid daily challenges, individuals emerge whose simplicity and effort make a difference, earning praise on social media for their example.

Such is the case of Mayito, a driver from Camagüey, recently recognized for his generosity and dedication to passengers, whose work was highlighted in the profile Querido Lec Tor in the Facebook group “Revolico Guáimaro.”

"Mayito is the kind of man who doesn't turn a blind eye when the bus stops are crowded or less busy," noted the author of the publication.

Despite the deep crisis faced by Cubans, where it is all too easy to succumb to selfish and opportunistic behaviors to take advantage of others' misfortunes, or to exhibit a bad attitude at work due to power outages or shortages of liquefied gas, some individuals rise above these hardships and offer the best of themselves.

The young woman from Santiago, Dayma Fajardo, earned admiration on social media after announcing that she had found a mobile phone in a hospital and was looking for its owner.
