A 46-year-old Cuban identified as Yandy Sanpedro was arrested in Miami after being accused of sexually assaulting his girlfriend, branding her with a knife, and subjecting her to hours of physical and psychological abuse.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on November 21, driven by jealousy and accusations of infidelity from the man towards the woman.
The victim and Sanpedro had been in a relationship for about a month and a half when the incident occurred.
According to the police report cited by local media, the man confronted the woman after discovering deleted text messages on her cell phone, accusing her of infidelity.
In the midst of the argument, he shut the door to the room, snatched the phone away, and, knife in hand, began a series of attacks.
The man repeatedly hit the woman in the face, threatened her with a knife, and sexually assaulted her.
During the attack, he tore off her underwear and assaulted her while continuing to check the deleted text messages.
"For each message, he physically assaulted her," the report details.
The situation escalated when Sanpedro forced the victim to let him carve his initials into her buttocks with a knife.
After carving the initials, he struck her and threatened to kill her family if she reported him.
Despite the threats, the victim managed to escape from the home and report the abuse to the police.
During a hearing in the Miami-Dade County criminal court, the victim expressed fear of reprisals.
"Please, do not grant him bail. I am afraid for my life. He threatened to kill me, my mother, and my brothers," said the woman, who asked Judge Mindy S. Glazer not to grant bail to Sanpedro.
The judge ordered that he remain in preventive detention without the possibility of bail, citing a high risk of reoffending and the potential existence of other victims. She also prohibited any contact or communication between the aggressor and the victim.
Court records show that Sanpedro was already on probation for another case of assault and injury.
He now faces multiple charges, including sexual assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful deprivation of liberty, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and robbery.
As of the closing of this note, there are no further details regarding the case.
