Neighbors capture and restrain a thief in broad daylight in a neighborhood of Santiago de Cuba

Residents of the Los Pinos neighborhood in Santiago de Cuba apprehended a man they caught attempting to steal and tied him up to prevent his escape while waiting for the police.

Residents of the Los Pinos neighborhood in Santiago de Cuba caught a man on Wednesday who was caught trying to steal in the area, and they tied him up while waiting for the police to arrive and arrest him.

The scene, which has become common in Cuba in recent times, was recorded by witnesses of the incident, and the video was shared by the communicator Yosmany Mayeta.

"Santiagueros capture a thief and tie him up on Mariana Grajales Avenue in Los Pinos," wrote Mayeta.

In the images, a crowd surrounds the suspect, who is sitting on the grass with his feet tied with a rope. The man, who is wearing a backpack on his shoulders, gestures and responds to questions from those present, but what they are saying cannot be heard.

According to the woman who recorded the video, when they surprised him, the alleged thief claimed he was looking for sugar.

The publication did not specify what the suspect attempted to steal nor provided further details about the incident.

The incident may seem insignificant, were it not for the fact that thefts and assaults on streets, homes, and commercial establishments have become a frequent occurrence, especially in recent years, as the economic crisis in the country has intensified.

In this context, there has been a surge in crime and social violence, with thefts and assaults becoming a daily occurrence. In many cases, citizens have felt compelled to take matters into their own hands due to the ineffectiveness of the police.

In the city of Santiago de Cuba, there have been reports of thefts targeting patients and their companions at the Hospital Infantil Sur. However, the alarms were raised in recent days when thieves killed two guards at their posts, one at a farmers' market and another at a paladar.

In another crime that has shaken the municipality of Jovellanos in the province of Matanzas, criminals killed 22-year-old Jesús David Corcho Pérez last week to steal his motorcycle.
