An attempted robbery at the Mío y Tuyo Jewelry, a Cuban-owned business in Miami, ended with the arrest of a woman accused of multiple thefts at similar establishments in the city.
The jewelry store staff worked with the police to set a trap that led to the arrest of the suspect.
The incident occurred when the woman entered the store and started asking to see gold chains. While the employees engaged her in conversation and showed her the pieces, one of them discreetly alerted the police.
When she tried to leave the establishment with several items concealed in her handbag, the woman found that the main door was closed.
One of the employees assured him that the door was broken and that he would have to wait a few minutes. This strategy prevented the suspect from escaping. When the police arrived, the woman appeared visibly nervous and attempted to flee, but she was apprehended by the authorities.
In her handbag, they found chains and gold jewelry from previous thefts. The investigation revealed that the accused had a history of complaints related to at least four other jewelry stores in Miami.
The owners of Mío y Tuyo provided strong evidence to the authorities that supports the accusations. "It's a shame that they come to this country and instead of working, they want to steal," stated one of the clerks at the jewelry store.
The detainee is facing more than ten charges and remains in custody. A judge set her bail at $20,000, but she will not be able to be released due to an active immigration detention order.
The case highlights the importance of collaboration between merchants and authorities to combat crime, especially in high-vulnerability businesses like jewelry stores in Miami.
