Cuban arrested for stealing a car and assaulting an elderly man in Hialeah

A man of Cuban origin has been arrested in Hialeah for stealing a car and assaulting an elderly man in a parking lot.

A Cuban was arrested in Hialeah after being accused of stealing a vehicle and assaulting an 87-year-old man in the parking lot of a Sedano's supermarket.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, just before 5:00 pm, at the intersection of 49th Street and 11th Avenue in western Hialeah. The alleged assailant is named Osmani Menéndez and is 37 years old.

According to the police report consulted by América Noticias, the elderly man remained seated in the front seat of the car, which was running, while his son entered the supermarket.

Menéndez took advantage of the situation, opened the driver's door, and threatened the victim. He told him he had a weapon and forced him to exit the vehicle, but when the older man resisted, he attacked him and pushed him out of the car.

The elderly man lay sprawled at the intersection of the tracks, while Menéndez fled in the gray Chevrolet Trax. The victim managed to walk back to the parking lot, where he met up with his son, and they immediately contacted the authorities.

The police located the car in Miami Gardens, where Menéndez was arrested. This Thursday, the Cuban appeared in court. He was charged with robbery, kidnapping, and assaulting a person over 65 years old.

Judge Mindy S. Glazer denied him bail and ordered him to stay away from the shopping plaza in Hialeah.

The incident has raised concern among the residents of the area, especially among the elderly who frequent the place.
