Local reporter Yosmany Mayeta identified Alex Recasen Suárez as the alleged perpetrator of a series of violent crimes that have shocked the city of Santiago de Cuba in recent weeks.
Among the crimes attributed to the man apprehended by authorities on Thursday are the murders of two security guards at the "El Santiaguero" Agricultural Market and the "Café Continental" restaurant, as well as the attack on a third individual at the "El Acuario" restaurant, who survived the assault.
Mayeta, who has become a recognized voice in the east of the island, stated that Recasen Suárez had been released from prison about a year ago, but allegedly resumed criminal activities that included armed robberies and murders.
Investigations suggest that the arrested individual was not acting alone and that their actions were connected to other similar crimes in the city.
During the searches conducted at several of his residences, the authorities seized evidence that directly links him to the events.
Local sources also indicate that he had connections in the Nuevo Van Van neighborhood in Altamira, where he previously resided with his late ex-partner, Niurka, with whom he had two children.
The arrest was carried out by joint forces from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), with support from the Santiago de Cuba community. Currently, Recasen Suárez is in custody and will be prosecuted in accordance with the provisions of the Cuban Penal Code.
In addition to the murders, he is linked to other violent robberies in the city center, according to a report from the pro-government outlet Héroes del Moncada. The investigation remains ongoing to determine if he is involved in other crimes committed in the region.
The recent crimes have created an atmosphere of insecurity in Santiago de Cuba, amid a growing economic and social crisis affecting the island.
"How you made my brother suffer, how you tortured him for hours!! How my whole family has suffered because of you!! May God have mercy on you and may divine justice give you what you deserve," expressed a follower of Mayeta in response to the post.
