Classes and non-essential work suspended in Cuba due to widespread power outage

The Cuban government has suspended classes and non-essential work in Cuba due to the new general blackout that started early this morning.

Authorities announced on Wednesday the suspension of teaching and work activities at centers not related to production or essential services.

The Cienfuegos station "Radio Ciudad del Mar" specified that it has suspended assistance to children's circles.

"Further information will be provided later regarding the internal centers," the note clarified.

The Electric Company of Havana announced on Facebook that as of around 7:00 am, service had been restored in two 33kV circuits, 15 13kV circuits, and in four hospitals.

"They are working tirelessly to restore the electricity service in the city," he added.

The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Marta Elena Feitó, announced that the suspension of all activities will remain in place as long as the current national energy crisis persists, with only essential services remaining operational. She also assured that "no worker will see a decrease in their salary."

The national electricity system (SEN) completely collapsed again early on Wednesday morning due to an unexpected shutdown of the country's largest thermoelectric plant, the Antonio Guiteras in Matanzas.

The Electric Company of Havana communicated this via its Telegram channel, stating that the outage occurred at 2:08 AM and that work is ongoing to restore service.
