Gas will be unavailable this weekend in several municipalities of Havana

It's not just the shortage of liquefied gas that causes problems in Cuba.

The Manufactured Gas Company announced an interruption of service in certain areas of four municipalities in Havana this weekend due to "urgent maintenance work."

"In order to ensure the stability and quality of the gas sent to the capital, as well as that used in electricity generation, it is necessary to carry out urgent maintenance work at the ENERGAS Puerto Escondido plant, which has been operating continuously for almost 20 years," the state-owned company explained in a statement.

The work will begin at 9:00 PM this Friday, December 6, and will continue until 2:00 AM on Sunday, December 8.

The disruption to the manufactured gas service will begin at 7:00 AM this Saturday, December 7th.

The notice states that the service will gradually resume starting at 7:00 AM this Sunday.

The areas of the network that will experience total service disruptions by municipality are:

-Plaza de la Revolución (Vedado Popular Council – Malecón).

-Old Havana (Catedral and Plaza Vieja Popular Councils).

-Centro Habana (Colón and Cayo Hueso Popular Councils).

-Diez de Octubre (Acosta People's Council).

However, the statement warns that there may be "partial impacts in other municipalities of the capital."

The notice warns that additional maintenance work will be carried out at the ENERGAS Refrigeration Plant until December 20.
