One person has died and several have been injured in a traffic accident in Holguín

A tragic traffic accident that took place this Saturday in Loma de Rejondones, Báguanos municipality, Holguín province, resulted in one death and several injuries, according to witnesses and local authorities.

The deceased victim was identified as Dennis Jaime Sánchez, a resident of Castillito, Mayarí, who, according to reports, was celebrating his 46th birthday on the day of the accident. He was traveling in a “Guasabita” from the Explomat Company headed to the city of Holguín.

"In a tragic traffic accident that occurred this morning at Loma de Rejondones in Báguanos, Dennis Jaime Sánchez, a resident of Castillito in Mayarí, lost his life while traveling in a ‘Guasabita’ from the Explomat Company heading to Holguín," reported journalist José Ramón Rubalcava on Facebook.

Among the injured are the girl Daliannis Samanta Noa Lugo, Luis Ramón Lugo Almaguer, and Yasnel Goen del Río, all residents of the municipality of Cueto. The driver of the truck involved, Exilio Valle Durán, who is from Camagüey, also sustained injuries, the source added.

The injured were initially taken to hospitals in Báguano, while the more severe cases were referred to the Holguín Clinical Hospital for specialized care.

Traffic authorities are still investigating the causes of the accident, while an official report on the circumstances that led to this tragedy is awaited.
