At dawn this Wednesday, a drop in the average selling price of euros and the freely convertible currency (MLC) in Cuba has been reported, according to the daily report from the independent outlet elToque, which documents the fluctuations of currencies on the island.
Despite the median values from Tuesday showing no signs of a decline, on this December 18, the euro is trading at 332 CUP, three pesos less than the previous day.
The MLC, for its part, shows an even sharper decline, dropping from 270 to 265, a decrease of five pesos compared to its prevailing value in recent weeks.
For now, only the dollar remains unchanged, priced at 325 pesos, a value it reached on December 14. The question is how long it will stay at this level.
Meanwhile, residents on the island are facing a bleak year-end, with the prices of basic food items skyrocketing and the sought-after pork, a staple on Cuban tables during this season, far beyond the purchasing power of most people.
