A vehicle belonging to the Special Troops Brigade of the regime was involved in an accident this Friday on a busy avenue in Havana, colliding with a yellow taxi and subsequently knocking down a palm tree from the road divider.

The incident was reported in the Facebook group "ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES, por más experiencia y menos víctimas," where images were shared showing the car stopped on the median alongside a palm tree that had been almost uprooted.

"Right now, the troops hit a yellow taxi and uprooted the palm tree," wrote a witness in the post, which sparked numerous reactions among users questioning whether the Special Forces driver would be required to pay for the damages to the taxi driver.

The photograph shows several young people wearing black berets and dressed in their olive green uniforms, who apparently were traveling in the vehicle.

This incident adds to a troubling streak of traffic accidents in the Cuban capital, as the year-end holidays approach and alcohol consumption rises.

More recently, an urban transporter minibus known as "Gacela" lost control on Calzada Calixto García in Arroyo Naranjo after its steering failed. The vehicle ended up crashing into a telephone pole.
