Miami is expecting the coldest temperatures in the last two years this week due to a cold front that will arrive in Florida on Monday evening.
This day was somewhat warmer than the previous ones, and rain is expected in parts of the state at night ahead of the front's arrival.
According to meteorologist Brandon Orr from Local 10, temperatures will start to drop on Tuesday morning, with lows of 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius).
But the icy gust of Arctic air won't arrive until the following morning. That day, temperatures will drop to 40 °F (4.4 °C), the coldest in the city since January 2023.
That weather will remain until Friday.
This weekend, temperatures will rise again to nearly 80 °F (26 °C).
More than 1,300 flights were canceled and hundreds more were delayed in the United States this Monday due to a severe winter storm that has been affecting the country since the weekend, bringing heavy snowfall and icy winds.
Train travel was also affected by the storm, with more than 20 cancellations on Sunday, over 40 planned for Monday, and two already scheduled for Tuesday.
The massive wave of snow, wind, ice, and low temperatures caused dangerous travel conditions from the central and southern United States to the East Coast, where hundreds of drivers had to be rescued from the roads by the National Guard.
The cold forced the closure of schools and government offices in several states, and nearly 300,000 customers were left without electricity since early morning in Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia, West Virginia, Illinois, and Missouri.
The Meteorological Prediction Center warned that dangerously cold temperatures will arrive in the coming days, which will also be felt in Florida, where severe frosts will reach as far south as the state.
