Alain Pérez

Son of the musician and composer Gradelio Pérez, he had his first encounters with music at home.

He began his musical studies in his hometown at the Manuel Saumell Music Conservatory in Cienfuegos, focusing on classical guitar and piano during this time. Later, in 1993, he moved to the capital to continue his education at the National School of Arts. Three years later, he earned a special diploma at the intermediate level in electric guitar, classical guitar, and orchestral conducting. In the same year, 1996, he accepted an invitation from Isaac Delgado to collaborate in one of his concerts, marking the start of a musical career that would prove to be both successful and unstoppable. He became the bassist and musical director of the group led by El Chévere de la Salsa. Even before that, at just 17 years old, he had already been invited to sing and play with Irakere.

In 1998, he arrived in Spain, where he settled permanently. His work as a bassist alongside Paco de Lucía resulted in the album Cositas buenas and gave Alain the visibility in Spain that his talent deserved.

He has worked and collaborated with Irakere, Celia Cruz, Los Van Van, Paquito de Rivera, Javier Masó “Caramelo”, Isaac Delgado and his group, Diego “EL Cigala”, Javier Limón, Paco de Lucía, Niño Josele, among others.

In 2002, he received the First SGAE Award for Latin Jazz.
