Alain Pérez

The son of the musician and composer Gradelio Pérez, he had his first encounters with music at home.

He began his musical studies in his hometown at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory of Music in Cienfuegos, focusing on classical guitar and piano. In 1993, he moved to the capital to continue his education at the National School of Art. Three years later, he received a special diploma in intermediate-level Electric Guitar, Classical Guitar, and Orchestra Conducting. In the same year, 1996, he accepted an invitation from Isaac Delgado to collaborate on one of his concerts, marking the start of a successful and unstoppable musical career. He eventually became the bassist and musical director of the group led by El Chévere de la Salsa. Earlier, at just 17 years old, he had already been invited to sing and play with Irakere.

In 1998, he arrived in Spain, where he established his permanent residence. His work as a bassist alongside Paco de Lucía resulted in the album *Cositas buenas*, giving Alain the visibility in Spain that his talent deserved.

He has done work and collaborations with Irakere, Celia Cruz, Los Van Van, Paquito de Rivera, Javier Masó “Caramelo,” Isaac Delgado and his group, Diego “El Cigala,” Javier Limón, Paco de Lucía, Niño Josele, among others.

In 2002, he received the First SGAE Award for Latin Jazz.
