Thousands of Cubans try to reach the United States border to request asylum. Most of them cross several countries to reach Mexico, where the authorities give them a safe passage that allows them to cross the country.
A video that reached our newsroom shows the terrible conditions in which Cubans survive in a shelter in Tapachula. In the images you can see the overcrowding and dirt of that center.
Several relatives of the detained Cubans have communicated with CyberCuba to denounce that there "they are violating people's rights."
"They record videos and communicate at dawn when the Mexican guards are sleeping," explains one of the sources.
According to their testimony, the phones they bring with them are taken away upon entry but then the same officers sell them others illegally.
"They give them food once a day but there is a huge line and when it runs out, most of them go without eating," he explains.
In these centers there are not only Cubans, but they are the majority. "They lock them up there for weeks, they don't publish information, it's not known how many are inside, and they cancel most visits."
According to what they say, many are beaten and then isolated until their wounds heal and then deported to Cuba.
Other videos from the same place have recently come to light denouncing the mistreatment of pregnant women, one of which she lost her baby because she was denied medical assistance.
