The Cuban government has just published the list of cars for sale and their prices in Free Convertible Currency (MCL), some of which are being offered at four times the value they have in the international market.
Among the cheapest cars that the Cimex.SA Corporation will sell starting February 25, is the MG MT that Cuba sells at a price of 38,000 USD, when, for example, in a country like Chile the same car costs 9,953 USD.
CyberCuba prepared a comparative table with the brands of some of the cars offered and their prices in different countries, which also shows the increase that Cuba adds to these vehicles.
To prepare this table, the websites of the brands and official dealers were used as sources, and these prices apply to models with standard equipment, that is, neither the cheapest nor the most expensive.
As the table shows, a Peugeot 301 T/A in Colombia has a value of 17,210 USD, when in Cuba it will be sold for 45,000 USD, which is equivalent to an increase of 261% of the initial price.
Another example that is alarming is that of the Renault Sandero, which in Spain is sold for 10,564 USD, while in Cuba it will cost 40,000 USD, that is, its value increases by 379%.
The Toyota Land Cruiser will go on sale on the Island for a price of 80,000 USD, when in Spain it costs 38,875 USD, which means an increase of 206%.
With a simple look at the table, it is not difficult to see that the Cuban government multiplies by two, three and even four the prices of cars that are considered cheap anywhere in the world.
Needless to say, at the moment, Cimex cars are second-hand, as they themselves have said in their advertisement.
Today, the business group announced the prices of the vehicles that will be available in MLC, and that until now were only sold in CUC.
Since last October, the island's authorities began expanding the sale of merchandise and equipment to the population as part of a policy of accelerated foreign exchange collection, in the midst of the economic crisis that affects the country.
For the moment, the cars will only be sold at the Car Agency on 20th Street between 1st and 3rd, Playa, in Havana, although they announced that it will gradually be expanded to the rest of the country, in accordance with the availability of vehicles and conditions of the agencies.
A few hours after its publication, CIMEX's announcement has sparked all kinds of comments among Cubans.
"Cars of the year of the bugle and payment in cash, you have to screw yourself!!," said a Twitter user.
"And why don't they assault us at gunpoint now? Your masters from GAESA are running rampant. You have the worst of capitalism along with the worst of socialism in a company that lives off lies and theft," commented another Cuban. .
"Instead of destroying and making the private and speculative market disappear that they generated for decades by prohibiting the sale of cars, it turns out that what they do is add to those absurd prices in an economy and salaries that do not correspond. Are they prices for the people?" another Cuban said insulted.
What do you think?
