On Wednesday, Javier Nart, MEP and representative of the Renew Europe political group, warned Spanish and European authorities of the ethical problem of hiring Cuban doctors considering that they were “in a situation of servitude.”
“Really, [Cuban doctors] are very useful, and the truth is that they do a great job. But I'm not worried about great work, but about people. And, in this case, I would also tell him that the black people in the sugar mills in Cuba did a great job, but they were slaves. Therefore, the problem is not that great work, but the conditions in which it is worked,” he explained.
Likewise, he stressed that the Havana regime confiscated between 75 and 90% of doctors' income, while emphasizing the ignorance of the international community regarding the ways in which Cuban missions function.
“I have addressed Josep Borrell and have informed him of what is happening in Italy and France. In the latter case, for its overseas possessions of Guadeloupe and Martinique, etc. And in Andorra, which is a non-EU country, but which has agreements with the European Union,” Nart explained.
