Spain was the country chosen by the two Cuban jazz legends to begin the tour next summer, in which they will present the new album that emerged after their reunion on stage last October.
The first concert will be on June 23 in the city of Pamplona, Chucho announced on his Facebook profile.
"Happy to announce that Pamplona will be the first stop of the summer for this long-awaited reunion with Paquito D'Rivera, don't miss it, it will be a unique and very special tour," wrote the pianist.
Both artists will appear at the Navarra Baluarte Conference Center and Auditorium, which has already put tickets on sale.
"The summer will premiere at Baluarte to the rhythm of Latin jazz and Latin American classics, performed by two luxury musicians: Chucho Valdés and Paquito D'Rivera," the auditorium announced on its Instagram account.
The organizers of the show detailed that the two musicians "will perform old hits, some of them already Latin jazz standards, classics from the Latin American repertoire, and also new compositions."
"Valdés, Cuban composer and pianist of Afro-Cuban jazz and founder of the group Irakere - one of the most transcendental groups in the entire musical history of the Caribbean country - and D'Rivera, Cuban jazz teacher, clarinetist and saxophonist, will merge their art and their music in the Main Hall of the Pamplona auditorium," adds Baluarte in hiswebsite.
After spending 40 years apart, Chucho and D'Rivera performed together on stage last October, whenThey played together at the Oslo Freedom Forum held in Miami.
A month later, they met again in Paris, in a series of three concerts organized by the Philharmonic of that city in honor of the Cuban pianist's 80th birthday.
"Justice takes time, but it comes, and this meeting of ours was as inevitable as it was happy and expected for us and for thousands of music lovers around the world. Now onlyWe have to complete the cycle in our impoverished and tyrannized land"D'Rivera said then.
"Still excited about this weekend at the Paris Philharmonic. Thanks to everyone who accompanied me, especially Paquito D'Rivera, Yilian Cañizares and Joe Lovano," said the pianist.
