Cuban basketball player Neslier Abreu arrives in Miami

Abreu arrived in the United States on a plane from Mexico, just two days after leaving the Cuban team in the Aztec country.

Cuban basketball player Neslier Abreu arrived in Miami by plane, just two days after leaving the national team in Mexico.

The news was announced on his Twitter account by sports journalist Henry Morales Márquez, along with a photograph of the player at the Miami airport with two people who came to receive him.

"As close sources confirm to me, the playerNeslier Abreu, who recently left the Cuban team in Mexico City, arrived tonight in Miami, United States, on a flight from Aztec lands," said the reporter.

Abreu, 29, arrived in the United States on Wednesday night.

The young man from Villa Clara was a member of the Cuban squad that traveled to Mexico to participate in the World Cup Windows of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), to be held in Chihuahua, a state bordering the United States. The competition grants a place for the World Cup, which will be in 2023.

According to information from the sports platformSwing Completo, Abreu "left the Cuban delegation almost at the moment of arrival, according to sources close to the team."

The player "works as a guard and was one of the figures with future potential of the Cuban squad and from whom a contribution was expected from the bench for this tournament," stressed journalist Yasel Porto.

So far there has been no official statement on the event from the sports authorities in Cuba.
