In the U.S., there are 1,343,960 Cuban immigrants (2018 census), making it the fifth largest Hispanic community in the country. More than two and a half million Cubans live outside the island, with 70% of them residing in the U.S., the majority of whom live in the state of Florida. Following the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, tens of thousands of Cubans emigrated to the U.S., with most settling in Miami. Today, Miami is considered the capital of Cuba in exile, and it is the second city in terms of the Cuban population, with over 700,000 residents, surpassing Santiago de Cuba, which has just over 400,000 residents.
