In the U.S., there are 1,343,960 Cuban immigrants (2018 census), making it the fifth largest Hispanic community in the country. More than two and a half million Cubans live outside the island, with 70% residing in the U.S., primarily in the state of Florida. Following the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, tens of thousands of Cubans emigrated to the U.S., with most settling in Miami. Today, Miami is regarded as the capital of Cuba in exile and is the second city with the highest number of Cuban residents, over 700,000, surpassing Santiago de Cuba, which has just over 400,000 inhabitants.
