The president of United States, Joe Biden, arrived in Mexico for the Summit with the leaders of North America, according to official information reported in the media and networks.
Biden will meet with his counterparts Andrés Manuel López Obrador, from Mexico, and Justin Trudeau, of Canada, in search of “a common vision for North America,” said this Monday the Press Secretary of the White House Karine Jean-Pierre.
The US president is also making his first visit to Mexico since taking office, and this Monday, before the Summit, he will have a meeting with the Mexican president to address issues related to migration, climate change, trade and manufacturing, Jean-Pierre also reported.
According to the official, Biden will make "announcements on expanding cooperation to combat arms, drug and human trafficking, as well as environmental challenges and steps to jointly address irregular migration in the region."
President Biden arrived in Mexico on the official Air Force One plane through the controversial Felipe Ángeles international airport, located more than an hour by car from the center of the Mexican capital and built by López Obrador, after the cancellation of the Texcoco air megaproject to beginning of assuming his mandate at the head of the Mexican Executive.
Biden arrived at the border point of El Paso, Texas, the day before, to meet with local leaders, in his also first foray to this area bordering Mexico since he took office in January 2021.
The visit took place amid debates about his administration's agreement with the Obrador government to send back immigrants who enter illegally through border points.
“Today I travel to El Paso to visit the border and meet with local leaders. “Our border communities represent the best of our nation's generosity and we will get them more supported while expanding legal avenues for orderly immigration and limiting illegal immigration,” Biden wrote on Twitter.
For his part, the president of Canada commented in a Twitter message that on Monday morning he had taken off for Mexico City and that in the coming days he was going to meet with Biden and López Obrador.
He also commented that he would have meetings with business leaders to strengthen economies, create good jobs and build a better future for the inhabitants of North America.
