Fire put out at waste treatment plant in Miami-Dade

There were no injuries and no structures at the facility were affected.

Andfire that broke out on this Tuesday afternoon in asolid waste treatment plant in Doral, Miami-Dade, wascontrolled in a short time by the firefighters.

The incident occurred when a garbage lot caught fire outside the plant, located near NW 87 Avenue and 58 Street, the Miami-Dade Fire Department reported on Twitter.

Residents in the Doral area may be seeing smoke in the air as a result of the fire, the publication warned.

According to the news channelLocal 10, the fire did not affect any structures and no injuries were reported.

This new event is not related tothe large fire which for more than a week has not been able to be extinguished even in anearby plant that burns garbage to produce energy.

This Tuesday, in the fire that continued at the Doral plant, the fire departmentremoved debris from a part of the structure which had been previously demolished.

Additionally, fire crews remain on scene putting out small fires in smoldering areas.

Smoke conditions have improved with minimal impact to the area.

Last week, Miami-Dade County authorities had recommended Doral residents to stay inside their homes during the afternoon and evening, while smoke was present in the area.

The Miami-Dade Resource Recovery Facility is owned by the county and operated by Covanta Energy. More than one million tons of waste are processed at this site per year.
