A Cuban resident inHialeah He was arrested in the early hours of this Sundayaccused of kidnapping a Hispanic woman in Miami, according to police reports.
Carlos Ramos, 62, appeared this Monday in Miami-Dade criminal court and faces charges ofkidnapping andassault.
The accused stated thathe thought the woman was offering sexual services, pointed to thepress Miami Police spokespersonKiara Delva.
According to the report of theMiami Police Department, the woman and her boyfriend left the La Guantanamera establishment, in Little Havana, and were waiting for a bus to get to the motel where they were staying.
Realizing that the bus was taking a long time, the couple walked to a nearby gas station, where they saw Ramos and asked him to please take them to the Ramona motel, on 33rd Avenue and Flagler Street.
The man offered to give the Cuban $10 to transport them. Upon arriving at the motel, the alleged victim's boyfriend got out of the front passenger seat and when he tried to open the door for his partner to get out, Ramos drove off before he could do so and drove with her to an apartment in North Miami.
Once at the house, the woman, who was under the influence of alcohol, begged the Cuban to return her to the motel where her fiancé was. Apparently, he agreed.
According to her testimony, during the journey the vehicle had a flat tire and she took advantage of the opportunity to escape from her alleged captor. Police, who had tracked her cell phone, found her at Northwest 7th Avenue and 125th Street.
Ramos was arrested at the scene and told officers that he had taken the woman because he thought she wasprostitute.
“Due to this incident we advise that no one should get into the vehicle of a stranger and fortunately, in this case, she was unharmed and the individual was behind bars,” stressed the Police spokesperson.
The accused is detained inTurner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, without the right to bail.
