The Cuban Government assured that the US intends to resume non-immigrant visas for Cubans, but said it does not know the details of the process.

“The media is reporting and the US government has told us of its intention to resume the services of granting non-immigrant visas to Cuban citizens with multiple entries. In the absence of an official announcement, the details are unknown," Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío said on Twitter.

Recently, three US government sources revealed to América Noticias that The Biden administration plans to announce the restart of B2 visas at the end of the month, although it is not contemplated that consular interviews will be resumed in Havana.

Category B2 visas allow you to enter the United States for tourism, leisure, or to visit friends and family.

Those who obtain it can participate in charity events, receive medical treatment, spend vacations, visit friends and family, participate in sporting or musical events without receiving payments, and enroll in learning courses as a hobby.

At the beginning of August, former congressman Joe García commented that he expected changes soon on the issue of five-year visas, which in his opinion would make it easier for the United States embassy to carry out its process and would remove the burden that currently exists, since Cubans cannot travel to the United States as they did years ago.

"There were many who had it and used it to enter and leave, today that visa is difficult to obtain or cannot be obtained particularly from the North American embassy, and what makes it more difficult for all people to have to choose: 'or I stay Either I leave, or I wait a long time, because it was a trip and I return, or I stay. I mean, look, the situation in Cuba is very difficult, my future is outside the country because I can leave today, but I may not be able to leave tomorrow...'” he explained.

García specified that many within Cuban civil society, including entrepreneurs who own MSMEs, as well as people living abroad, have asked for these visas to be resumed.

In March 2019, the United States Embassy in Havana informed Cubans reducing the validity of the B2 visa from five years to a maximum of three months, with a single entry into the country.
