Foreign Ministry denies the Ambassador in Russia after endorsing Cuban participation in the war

"Theunequivocal and unchanging position of the governmentCuban, in accordance with national legislation, isagainst the participation of Cuban citizens in any conflict, against mercenarism and against human trafficking," wrote Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla on his Twitter account.

His statement comes shortly afterJulio Garmendía, Cuban ambassador in Moscow, declared to the Russian press that the Cuban government assured this Thursday that it has nothing against the “legal participation” of its citizens in the war in Ukraine on the Russian side, but that it condemns “the illegal activities” of those detained for alleged trafficking. of people, because they "violated the law.

According to what the diplomat told the agencySputnik, governmenthas nothing "against Cubans who want to sign a contract and participate legallyin this operation with the Russian army. But we oppose illegality and these operations are not within the legal framework.”

The Havana government had remained silent until September 4, when they said in a statement that they were working to dismantle a human trafficking network dedicated to transporting Cuban citizens to the conflict, as well as recruiting others who already resided in Russia.
