The Major Leagues said goodbye this Sunday to a man who surely will enter the Hall of Fame in his first appearance on the ballots, the Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera.

'Miggy' leaves baseball at 40 years old, 21 of them playing at the highest level with only two teams, the Marlins - with whom he won his only World Series ring in 2003 - and the Tigers, whose colors he defended from 2008 to date.

His service record includes two MVP awards, 12 All-Star Game assists, seven Silver Sluggers and four batting titles, and he stands out especially the conquest of the Triple Crown in 2012, the last time such a feat has been accomplished in Major League Baseball.

Cabrera leaves with 511 home runs - twenty-fifth of all time - and 1,881 runs batted in, giving him 13th place in history.

Despite the notable decline experienced in their last campaigns, His batting average remains at .306, with a whopping 3,174 hits that place him at number 17 in the record books.

One fact is enough for them to have their plaque ready in Cooperstown from now on: Miguel Cabrera, along with Willie Mays and Hank Aaron, forms the shortlist of the only hitters who have been able to combine an offensive average of .300 with 500 home runs and 3,000 hits.
