The Tropical Storm Sean It formed this Wednesday in the Atlantic Ocean and is moving west-northwest at a speed close to 13 miles per hour (20 km/h), according to the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC).
He notice number 2 of the NHC located its center at 11 a.m. near latitude 10.9 North and longitude 34.4 West, about 780 miles (1,260 km) southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Forecasters predict a west-northwest to northwest movement over the next few days.
This tropical organism does not represent a danger to Cuba, is only of interest for navigation in the area, assured the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET).
In its departs from 5 a.m., INSMET reported that tropical depression number nineteen had continued to gain in organization and intensity until it became the tropical storm Sean, making it the eighteenth named organism of the 2023 hurricane season.
According to NHC experts, Sean's maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h), with stronger gusts, and they forecast little change in intensity over the next 72 hours.
Sustained tropical storm-force winds extended up to 90 miles (150 km) from the center of the storm, whose estimated minimum central pressure is 1006 millibars (29.71 inches).
The NHC also reported that it is monitoring another tropical wave located south-southeast of the Cape Verde Islands, with a low probability (30%) of the development of a tropical cyclone.
The 2023 hurricane season for the Atlantic ends November 30.
At the end of last August, the hurricane Idalia hit the western region of Cuba, with strong winds and intense rains that caused river flooding and coastal flooding in the provinces of Pinar del Río and Artemisa. Several landslides were reported in Havana.
Idalia made landfall in Florida as category 3 hurricane, leaving floods and destruction in their wake. It also caused significant damage in the Carolinas.
