Strong winds that caused sea penetration into areas surrounding the boardwalk were reported this Tuesday in Baracoa, province of Guantánamo.
According to the official journalist Miguel Reyes Mendoza, through his Facebook page Miguel Noticias, the meteorological phenomenon is produced by “a powerful anticyclone whose central region will be located today in the Western Atlantic, near Cape Hatteras.”
In addition, he pointed out that "this system imposes strong winds on Cuba, mainly in areas of the northern coast of the east of the country with speeds between 20 and 35 km/h, up to 40 km/h with higher gusts."
Several Internet users shared images of the event, accompanied by videos where the waters can be seen penetrating the lower part of the pier.
TheMunicipal Assembly of Popular Power of that Guantanamo territory said that these were intense rains that have brought penetrations from the sea and the river, which is why the city's evacuation systems were under observation.
Last October, strong gusts of wind that reached up to 80 kilometers per hour, as occurred in Jamal, a popular council of Baracoa that borders the Atlantic Ocean to the north, caused flooding in that town.
Due to the intensity of these winds, the swells increased on the boardwalk of the city of Baracoa, causing slight flooding in low areas of the coast.
