In it World Cancer Day, this Sunday, the Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel He assured that his government is committed to the care of cancer patients.

"In it World Cancer Day our solidarity for all those who are fighting against this difficult disease. Cuba, in the midst of a genocidal blockade, will continue to provide the care that each patient deserves, and we will not stop the development of anti-cancer drugs," Díaz-Canel said in a publication on the social network X.

His words come in the midst of a deep crisis in the Cuban Public Health System, where the greatest complaints of institutional abandonment, lack of medicines and medical supplies in hospitals, are made every day by cancer patients.

Access to drugs, the maintenance of hospital infrastructure and the availability of supplies for treatments are some of the emergencies that Cuba's public health system cannot satisfy.

Recent reports highlight that persistent in the country medicine shortage, the dysfunctionality of essential medical equipment and the impossibility of receiving cancer treatments in several provinces.

The patients themselves, with their testimonials, confirm the precarious conditions of the hospitals on the island and there are even reported cases of sick people who decide to undertake difficult migratory routes, putting their lives at risk, in order to seek treatment in other countries.

The attention to the cancer patients and investment in the development of new medicines have always been in the discourse of the Cuban regime, but the reality is far from the president's words.

The Cuban hospitals do not have resources and the daily complaints of cancer patients contradict Díaz-Canel's statements.
