"Create your happiness": Singular UJC campaign in the midst of the crisis in Cuba

The campaign makes an indirect reference to a slogan that was very famous in Cuba: "We are happy here"

The Young Communist Union (UJC) chose a unique slogan for its campaign for the 12th Congress, in a context of scarcity and increasing poverty in Cuba: "Create your happiness".

The philosophical slogan is intended to invite young cubans to invent an ideal world, in a country that is falling apart, so that they can find happiness for themselves. The State trusts that they will be the ones to take Cuba out of the misery it finds itself in, due to the management of the regime itself.

He advertising spot This campaign is full of color, it includes faces of young people of different genders, ages and professional fields. However, it fails to convey optimism.

Most faces look serious, rigid, with faint or fake smiles. The voices heard repeat the slogan slowly, without grace, in a tone that does not convince even the most communist Cubans.

"Create your happiness" It indirectly refers to another slogan that was very famous in Cuba and generated ridicule for many years: "We are happy here".

In the critical economic, political and social situation that Cuba has, these communist slogans do not resonate with the population and end up becoming reasons for laughter, or playing into double meanings in everyday situations that are far from the intended "happiness" that they want to convey. government.

He XII Congress of the UJC It has been taking place in Havana since April 2 and concludes this Thursday at the Convention Palace.

Miguel Diaz-Canel has said that "Create your happiness" It is an "attractive and unusual label." He recalled that this April 4, the UJC celebrates its 62 years. It was founded by Fidel Castro, like the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM), which turns 63 that same day.

In this Congress, the UJC approved modifications to its statutes to "invigorate the life of the organization, consolidate it as a real vanguard, increase its reach and influence and perfect the political-ideological work," as indicated Workers.

Since 2021, Cuba faces one of the largest migration crises in its history. Those who leave the island the most are young people, to escape misery, the repression of the State, the lack of freedoms and go in search of a better life, where they can fulfill their desires.

Thousands of young Cubans have preferred to cross the sea in precarious boats, cross the Darien Jungle, suffer the cold of Siberia and even dehydrate in a desert, rather than remain in Cuba thinking about how to "create their happiness." They are certain that as long as there is communism, there is nothing to dream about in their homeland.
