Hegovernment of Spain announced that it will expand the number ofnationality appointments by Law 36 and 20, at its Consulate in Havana, starting next week.
"As of March 18, thenationality appointments by Law 36 and Law 20. Please note that a reserved appointment cannot be canceled or brought forward. Access to the appointment will be preceded by verification of the identity card number," they stated on the profile of the social network X of the Spanish Consulate in Havana.
The Spanish government announced at the end of February thatwill extend the nationality application period through the Democratic Memory Law (Law 20), popularly known as the "Grandchildren Law", until 2025.
This gives more time to the descendants of Spanish exiles to begin their procedures in order to obtain the nationality of the Iberian country.
A week earlier, the governments of Spain and Cuba approved a joint collaboration agreement that will expedite the procedures for people born on the island who meet the requirements to apply for Spanish citizenship.
Thedelays in procedures of documents in the Civil Registries of Cuba and also in the processing of files in the Spanish Consulate in Havana, have influenced many cases of citizenship application through Law 36, known asHistorical Memory Act, stay open.
The intention is to accelerate these processes and contribute to facilitating Spanish nationality for Cubans who have the right to opt for it.
