Spain extends the new Grandchildren Law until the end of 2025

The government of Spain will extend the nationality application period through theDemocratic Memory Law, popularly known as the"Grandchildren Law" until 2025, giving more time to descendants of exiles to obtain Spanish nationality.

The ministerAngel Victor Torres Perez, at the head of the Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory portfolio of Spain, confirmed the extension of the period for descendants of Spanish exiles to obtain citizenship of this European country.

The measure, which is framed within theDemocratic Memory Law, has been acclaimed for doing justice to those affected by totalitarian regimes, the official said.

Although the law was set to expire on October 21, 2024, it is now extended until the end of 2025.Fernando Santiago Ollero, president of the College of Administrative Managers of Spain, two weeks ago invited those interested not to delay the presentation of their documents.

In view of the continuous inconveniences of the Spanish Consulate in Havana, where it is difficult to obtain appointments for immigration procedures, what is recommended for those who wish to obtain Spanish nationality in this way is that they present their files as soon as possible and then hand in the documents they must amend or add, according to each case.
