Miami police arrested Víctor Manuel Rubio this Tuesday, suspected of fatally hitting a Cuban in Little Havana, and then leaving the crime scene.
The fact that cost the life of Tomas Brito happened last Tuesday on the famous Calle 8, in the heart of the Little Havana neighborhood.
Rubio, 33, was arrested at 9:45 a.m. at his residence, located at 560 SW 47 CT in Miami, the police reported. canal Telemundo 51.
According to a police report, the suspect ran over Brito when he was trying to cross the street, at approximately 8:37 p.m., and left him seriously injured in the middle of a public street.
The alleged culprit drove his 2008 two-door BMW car at high speed down Southwest 8th Street.
At approximately 10:03 p.m., Rubio reported his car stolen, police reported.
Prior to the arrest of the alleged culprit, police located the BMW two miles from the scene of the accident and with damage to the windshield.
At the scene, a witness reported to officers that he saw a man acting strangely walking around the neighborhood and getting in and out of the car.
Rubio has been in county jail three times, for the crimes of burglary and aggravated child abuse, the channel reports. Local 10.
According to police, the suspect was on parole at the time of the arrest.
Miami firefighters rushed Tomas Brito to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, but he died shortly after. He recently turned 40 and leaves behind his mother, two teenage children and a brother.
"He asks me if I want food at 8:07, and at 8:42 when I answer, he never responded," said his mother, Dulce María del Pino, about what happened. "He's a murderer... he threw my son like a ball... he dragged him. Very sad."
Another accident with fatal consequences occurred recently in Miami, when a man fell into the sea near Haulover Sandbar.
The person was on the shore, lost his balance, fell into the ocean and struggled unsuccessfully against the strong currents before rescuers found him unconscious. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
